Part 1 -Different Kinds of Creative Journals
There is a million ways you can make a creative journal. The first thing to keep in mind is that these are for your eyes only, and anyone you wish to share them with. The reason I use the plural tense is because they are so fun you will want to make many!
*** The first thing you need to do is to decide what kind of journal you want to make:
Junk journal/smash book- mostly just attaching things to the pages, not a lot of writing
Art journal – mostly your own art
Scrapbook – using photos and fancy paper, stickers and sets of little things
Picture book – just pictures of things that make you happy, photos and images from magazines, etc.
Goal planning/ day planner/ bullet journal – making a boring planner beautiful as well as useful
Altered book – adding things to an old book or using just the cover to make a book
Self-discovery/ diary – writing about everything on your mind
Or a combination.
*** Next decide your actual book you will use to create your pages in. Consider the thickness of the pages. A book like a composition notebook (which I use) has thin pages so ink and paint seep through the page, and the pages warp easily but that is not a problem if you glue or paint with acrylic on the other side. A mixed Media art book has thick paper and can handle glue and a little paint.
Mixed media art book or watercolor art book
Leather bound art book
Composition notebook
Regular notebook
Make your own with cereal boxes or any kind of paper
Old calendar, planner, catalog/booklet made with heavy paper
Any old book
